We recently had our German friends over from Indojunkie. They wrote some lovely things about our programme and shala which we would like to share with you in English in the blog post below. The original post can be found here.
Imagine watching the sun rise over the mirror-smooth waters, walking barefoot along the white sands into an airy bamboo shala, and starting your day with a sun salutation.
Tucked away in a verdant garden, right off the coast of Sanur, is a place where yoga has lived, breathed, and been passed on for generations, with a lot of authenticity and heartfelt joy.The yoga and healing centre specialises not only in soothing retreats, but also in high-quality yoga teacher training.
Close your eyes, breathe in the salty air, listen to the rhythmic sound of the waves, and as you exhale, let the peace and relaxation return to your body.

Power of Now Oasis – Your home away from home
I sit on a comfortable sofa. Colourful prayer flags fly above me as I watch other travellers walk or cycle along the promenade and pause in fascination as they look at the bamboo architecture of Power of Now Oasis gleaming in warm brown tones. Not surprisingly, the architectural style of the yoga studio attracts attention, because from a distance, the design looks like an open version of a gigantic beehive. But instead of hectic hustle and bustle, a calming yet lively atmosphere awaits you here, which invites you to linger.
I was in the beautiful Yoga Shala for the first time about 10 years ago and fell in love immediately. And this is not only due to the fabulous location (from your yoga mat, you can look directly at the sea through green treetops) and the great yoga teachers. Shala translates to “home” and that’s exactly what this place embodies. Even the pets, Angelique the cow and Master Turtle, can agree, they are an absolute inspiration when it comes to channeling inner peace and serenity.
Together, with the little dog, known as Guru Runt, who can probably master the “Downward Facing Dog” best, the three are an essential part of the Power of Now Oasis team, because here they live in harmony with nature. Where better to experience sustainable wellbeing than in a sustainably built environment?
Social engagement and Karma Yoga at Power of Now Oasis
The semi-non-profit studio is one of the most established yoga venues in Bali and was opened in 2010 out of the desire to create a community space for like-minded people. It is a place of real connection and honest communication, where everyone can be themselves. On the door hangs a sign that reads, “Relax. Breathe. Be Mindful. Give. Inspire.” It was important to the founder, Chris, that Power of Now Oasis not only invite people to practice yoga together, but motivate them to integrate yogic teachings into their own lives. And Karma, the yoga of selfless action, played an important role for him.
When he arrived here, many years ago, Angelique was the first to welcome him. It was immediately clear to Chris that he wanted to stay longer and make the sacred energy of the place available to others.
“It is very important to me that this idea does not disturb Angelique’s world and that she can continue to graze peacefully on her pasture every day,” he says happily as we stand in the shala and Angelique slumbers comfortably in the sun in front of the terrace.
Power of Now Oasis has a long-standing commitment to supporting the local community in Bali. The studio donates its remaining profits to the Sole Family Foundation (Solemen), a respected local NGO that has supported families in need for more than twelve years. Their work focuses on people living with disabilities, chronic illness, and other vulnerable conditions. By joining a yoga class, booking a retreat, or completing a teacher training, you directly contribute to this ongoing support.

What makes the Power of Now Oasis team so special?
The harmonious, almost family-like team of Power of Now Oasis consists of yogis and yoginis from all over the world, who were attracted to the magical place on the east coast of Bali, and now do not want to leave!
What’s more, many Indonesians teach here, which I particularly like because it shows that the respectful treatment of the locals is an important part of the culture.
Yoga has been part of my life since I was 12 years old and I have practiced and learned from many different yoga teachers from all over the world. At Power of Now Oasis, I was immediately impressed by the sincerity with which the philosophy of yoga is passed on.
Here, you won’t find purely commercially oriented classes where OM is forgotten or breathing is ignored. Power of Now Oasis integrates all aspects and paths of yoga.
When you arrive for the first time, you will be welcomed with exuberance and warmth and regarded as a temporary family member.
So, it’s no wonder that most of the team members have been here for many years and that Chris still likes to spend as much time as possible.
Every day, you will be greeted by the beaming faces of Yuyun, Mary Ayu and Indah, who take care of the organisation of the studio and welcome you in with their friendly and caring nature. In addition to the yoga teachers, you will also have some professional therapists at your side, who will enrich the offer at Power of Now Oasis with valuable holistic practices. These include coaching sessions, professional trauma work, Ayurvedic treatments or Traditional Chinese Medicine, and even the powers of the highly respected Balinese healer and founder of the Bali Usada Health Meditation Centre, Pak Merta.
Discover the diverse Yoga offering of Power of Now Oasis
As versatile as the teaching team of Power of Now Oasis, is the range of different classes taught in the Shala.
During your stay, you can get acquainted with different yoga styles. Practice traditional Hatha Yoga with Menik, attend dynamic Vinyasa classes at Ulfa, practice Iyengar Yoga with Lisa, or take part in a relaxing Yin Yoga session by Krisna.
Each orientation has its own merits and you will learn how to strengthen your physical and energetic body, as well as calm your mind.
Some teachers incorporate special spiritual studies or qualities into their yoga classes. For example, with the Balinese Jero Mangku, who comes from a long line of traditional Hindu priests, you can try out a very unique style, which he himself calls “Bali Yoga”.

Hectic daily schedules, stress at work, street noise and air pollution, and even chronic overload and exhaustion – we perceive all these factors to be quite normal, and it has almost become a habit to push the accelerator pedal to the limit.

I would like to encourage you to take these words as a sign to give yourself a break. And why not in one of the most beautiful Shalas in Bali, far away from all the usual influences?
